Speaker Bio
Jessica MacDonald serves as the Overwatch Peer Support (OPS) Coordinator for NAMI Finger Lakes, where she has led the implementation and expansion of the NAMI North Texas-developed OPS model in New York State. Working closely with first responder leaders, NAMI North Texas, and NAMI affiliates across New York, Jessica has focused on translating a proven program into a shared affiliate model that can meet the needs of diverse communities while maintaining the trust, responder-led culture, and core principles that make OPS effective. Under her leadership, the New York initiative has grown from a local program into a collaborative effort engaging NAMI Finger Lakes, NAMI Syracuse, NAMI Rochester, NAMI Herkimer & Oneida, and other partners. Her work includes program implementation, affiliate expansion, training infrastructure, volunteer leadership, community partnerships, and building sustainable systems that allow affiliates to participate without having to recreate the program independently. Jessica also led the development of a dedicated OPS peer support app designed to give first responders a simple, confidential way to connect with trained peers when they need support. As the spouse of a longtime law enforcement officer, Jessica also brings a family perspective and personal understanding of how the demands of public safety careers extend beyond the individual responder. Her work is driven by a commitment to reducing stigma, reaching responders who may not otherwise seek help, and strengthening the connection between first responder communities, trusted peer support, and NAMI's broader mission of support, education, advocacy, and hope.
