Luisa Cicero - Affiliate and Statewide Programs Manager, NAMI Illinois
Many NAMI affiliates are doing meaningful work to serve Spanish-speaking communities, but are often limited by resources or capacity, which may lead to initiatives having an unsustainable lifespan. This session will share how NAMI Illinois is building a statewide model that links affiliates together, using Compartiendo Esperanza as the entry point and creating a clear pathway that keeps Latino families engaged well beyond a three-conversation series. We will walk through how the initiative proposes the coordination of bilingual mental health professionals across affiliates, invests in local community leaders, connects communities through a monthly statewide space, and bridges participants into other NAMI programs. Coordinators will leave with a practical framework for turning individual affiliate efforts into a coordinated statewide approach they can adapt in their own states.
