Description

Peer leadership extends beyond providing support---it inspires advocacy, strengthens communities, and creates lasting systems of hope and recovery. This interactive workshop explores the distinctions between peer support specialists and peer leaders while highlighting pathways to leadership and advocacy within NAMI and beyond. Participants will discover how lived experience, storytelling, and authentic leadership can inspire change while learning practical strategies to sustain their impact through wellness practices and burnout prevention. The session will also examine resilience-building skills, post-traumatic growth, and the importance of developing a personalized wellness plan to support long-term leadership. Through reflection, discussion, and practical tools, participants will leave with increased confidence, actionable strategies, and a roadmap for leading with purpose, promoting recovery, and building sustainable peer leadership in their communities.
